Peering Through The Glass Beads

Glass beads are among the many types of beads that are available to bead lovers out there. Beads made from glass, especially high-quality glass, are very attractive. They have luster and may also sparkle almost as if they were precious stones. Many bead craft makers may be drawn to them because they are transparent and the light passing through them makes for a richness in color. Of course, each type of bead has their own unique qualities but glass beads may especially be eye-catching.

Glass beads are usually made from using intense heat. The beads then cool slowly. When working with glass, there is a procedure which is known as annealing it, meaning one has to heat it and hold it at certain temperatures and then allowed to cool slowly. This is because subjecting the glass to intense heat causes stress which may cause the glass to crack or shatter. Making glass beads is actually a craft in itself as one has to take into careful consideration the factors such as temperature. Too much heat may cause it to melt and run down and failure to keep it at an even temperature will destroy the glass bead before it’s had a chance to take form.

For this reason, glass beads are also usually highly priced. In fact, one may consider them as investments. Unlike other beads that are sold in bulk for a low price, it is possible that this is not as common with glass beads which may be more frequently sold at fewer quantities at a slightly higher price.
